What can I expect during my first psychotherapy appointment?

Your first visit will be with the therapist that you plan to work with. In that visit, the focus will be primarily on the therapist developing an understanding of your problems or concerns, as well as getting to know more about you, your family, your work, your history, and other important factors in your life. This will enable you and your therapist to work together to develop a treatment plan that will guide your work together. While we are confident in the work of all of our therapists, if you find that there is not a good fit between you and your therapist, which sometimes happens, we can help you to identify a different therapist that can meet your needs. Psychotherapy is always a collaboration between patient and therapist - be sure to let your therapist know what you need!
